Filmmakers, actors, and visual artists are familiar with the urge to answer this burning question. With careful composition, the image formed by a single frame can take on a life of its own and live in perpetuity in the minds of its audience. By stringing together a single frame with another, an entire narrative can be built.It is not until we go beyond the frame, however, beyond what is immediately presented, that true meaning can be made. When we consider not just the immediate but the historical context of a film or actor, our understanding and appreciation deepens.Throughout Anna May Wong’s career, her undeniable gravitas and masterful use of facial expressions left lasting impressions on Hollywood and beyond. Although her stardom was undeniable, her trajectory toward it was not easy.Wong navigated the film industry in a time when Asian stars were few and far between, and the roles available to them were rife with stereotypes. POSITIONVisual Art Director CHAGEE’s first North American store opening at Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles presented an opportunity to translate the brand’s philosophy into a holistic experience. The concept merged Eastern tea rituals with LA’s cinematic charm, balancing Hollywood’s elegance with CHAGEE’s values of refinement and authenticity. The project included event visual identity, catering display, floral arrangements, tea card and Event Signage design, and an instructional microsite—together creating a cohesive atmosphere that bridged tradition and modernity, and celebrated the exchange and integration of cultures.

In Chinese, pavilion (亭) shares its sound with stop (停) and historically implied a pause. Impact explores how social media platforms reshape information, leading to bias, distortion, and one-sided narratives across X (Twitter), Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The project combines multiple mediums to reveal these dynamics:Data visualization poster — highlights user behavior, algorithmic influence, and information distortion. Acrylic installation — presents five case studies, from global events to personal moments, using a pixelated aesthetic to visualize the “information blur.“ Motion graphic — synthesizes insights into the broader impact of media on perception. The design envisions an immersive lecture-experience where audiences learn how light shapes human perception and then engage in spatial experiments. The branding combines vibrant RGB primaries with a full spectrum palette, supported by bold typography (Noka, Magavolt) to convey a sense of brilliance and multifaceted energy.
